Assimilation
Assimilation is the process of altering one's identity, particularly one's cultural identity, in order to adapt to societal expectations. Minorities who face discrimination from a majority group may benefit from this procedure. On the other hand, immigrants can lead identities to shift or vanish totally. This loss of minority identity frequently results in a reduction in the respect and trust that minorities once had. For disadvantaged individuals, this might have detrimental consequences. Students may become distracted and underachieve academically as a result of external causes. They may lose connection with their cultural identities, which can lead to low self-esteem.
